Con respecto a la mecánica del Insignia VXR Sports Tourer, como ya les decíamos antes, el motor empleado es el mismo que se utilizó en el Insignia OPC sedán. Teniendo en cuenta que el Insignia VXR Sports Tourer es mas grande que el Insignia OPC sedán, lo curioso es que la aceleración de 0 a 100 ambos la hacen en seis segundos, algo muy raro ya que el Insignia VXR Sports Tourer es mas pesado.

Por el momento no se conocen datos acerca de cuando comenzará a comercializarse, que precios tendrás ni los lugares en que se comercializará. Para eso solo habrá que esperar.

New Jaguar XJ Spyshots

Apologies for the absence of posts in December - An office move has limited our time scouring for and posting the latest Jaguar news - normal service is now resumed!

Just to prove it, here are the latest shots of the next generation Jaguar XJ that are currently floating round the interweb. Unlike previous spyshots which have been of the current generation XJ body shell being used as a test mule, here we have the real thing - early pressings of the body shell that will make up the new car, heavily disguised of course.

From the rear particularly, we can see the cladding around the top of the C Pillar that is designed to disguise the incredibly coupe-like roof line that the new XJ carries. This shows clearly Jaguar is moving away from the traditional 3 box shape completely, and towards the 4 door coupe style that we have seen in the Aston Rapide concept, the latest Maserati, The Lamborghini Estoque, and all started with the Mercedes CLS, which was internally known at Mercedes as the Jag-Beater during its development.

The new XJ is expected to be revealed at the Frankfurt show in September, and should have the new generation of engines currently being debuted in the Jaguar XF and Jaguar XK - the new 3.0 diesel in both 237 and 270 horsepower forms, and the 5.0 V8 both as a naturally aspirated and supercharged format. Prices are expected to be up on the £50,000 a current XJ costs.

Two Dutch designers have been hard at work creating a rather odd sports car with and extremely odd name –the Bewerp Savage Rivale Roadyacht GTS! Emile Pop and Justin de Boer spent five years designing the Savage Roadyatch and completed their first fully operational prototype earlier this year, in time for its appearance at the Top Marques show in Monaco. The Savage Rivale Roadyacht GTS is based on the Chevrolet Corvette Z06 and is the world’s first four-door, four-seater supercar with a folding hard-top, though it appears to have only two doors rather than four!

The Bewerp Savage Rivale Roadyacht GTS is powered by a front mounted 6.0-Liter LS7 supercharged V8 from General Motors that develops 670 bhp at 6,200 rpm, and 538 lb-ft of torque at 4,800 rpm, enough to propel the car from zero to 62 mph in a claimed 3.4 seconds and on to a top speed of 205 mph, but it is the design and construction that is more interesting. The Savage Rivale Roadyacht GTS is constructed from high-tech, lightweight materials built around a chrome-molybendium space frame covered with a carbon fibre body. Entry to the Savage Rivale Roadyacht GTS is via a custom wristwatch or touchscreen that opens the car’s unique suicide, scissor doors! If it sounds fantastic, then the price tag of €257,000 ($340,000) will too! The first of only 20 Bewerp Savage Rivale Roadyacht GTS units is currently being built and is scheduled for completion later this year.

Weekend Review: 2009 Audi A5

The 2009 Audi A5 is a good looking car from all angles, making BMWs self-conscious everywhere it goes.

Heading back east for the weekend, I made a call/email/drastic plea to a friend to try and line up a car for me during my time in Connecticut, Rhode Island, and Boston. The voice on the other end asked if the 2009 Audi A5 3.2 Quattro with manual transmission would be acceptable. Hmm… a $54,715 (as tested) fully-loaded luxury coupe for free or a $20/day rental car with cigarette burn holes in the seat. This was less a choice and more a great way to start a long weekend.

As I said above, I was excited at the thought of charging across scenic New England highways in this two-door German sports coupe, but not quite doing back flips. Last October I had some seat time in the 2008 Audi S5 and I loved it, however that car is powered by a 4.2L V8 producing 354-hp and my only complaint was that the exhaust note was too quiet. This 2009 A5 has a 3.2L V6 under the hood which pumps out 265-hp, almost 90 less than the S5. I had also just spend a week in a Mitsubishi Lancer Evo (review coming soon), so anything was going to feel slow.

Picking up the A5 at the airport and jumping into the leather and suede seats after sitting on a coast-to-coast red-eye flight was a surprisingly good feeling… for a seat to be supportive and comfortable is all you can ask for, and Audi makes that happen here. Once fully inside the cabin, key fob in pocket and push-button start effectively pushed, it was time to head out on the highway - looking for adventure so to speak (someone should use that line in a song perhaps).

The journey through Connecticut was quicker than I anticipated thanks to surprisingly smooth highways, a lack of traffic, endless options on Sirius (Howard 100, oh how I missed you), and a strong urge to get a sense of what that 3.2 under the hood was all about. Earlier I said I wasn’t excited about the engine after driving an S5, but those thoughts quickly vanished as the wonderfully sculpted nose of this A5 pressed down the highway quickly and efficiently regardless of which of the 6 forward gears I was in - except 1st of course… that would have been bad.

Connecticut soon turned into Rhode Island and I was nearing my destination for most of the weekend. The bridge into Newport was soon behind me and I was approaching the cobblestone section of Thames Street. Switching the Audi drive select from “sport” to “comfort” kept everything smooth in my little A5 world. Driving or walking through Newport, you can come across some nice cars from time to time but all eyes were on this Audi as I glided through the surrounding area. Past mansions that you only thought existed in storybooks, past the ocean along shore drive, and back into the center of town - all the while eyes were fixated on this beautiful coupe. The local crowd’s staring eyes glowed with the same intensity as the LED daytime running lights of the A5. To be honest, I was a bit shocked with the amount of “ooh-look-at-that points” and “wow-that-is-cool stares” since this car is not new anymore. But it is just that good looking.

My time in Rhode Island was over and my last stop before returning to Bradley International Airport in Hartford was Winthrop, Massachusetts. This 2009 Audi A5 gobbles up the road in long smooth strides and my journey was comfortable the entire time. This is certainly not a true sports car; it is a great highway cruiser that can more than handle its way through a few curves (especially when equipped with the $2,900 S-line package-19” wheels, performance tires, and sport suspension).

The point where this car stops making good sense is when you look at the sticker price. In the beginning I said it was $54,715 as equipped. That is a lot of money, especially when you consider that the 2008 S5 I tested cost just $3,775 more. That’s right--it was $58,490 and it might be even less today (if you are willing to get one a few miles old - there are 30 of them on AutoTrader.com right now). Sure, the base price of $42,700 sounds good - but you lose the S-line package, navigation, Bang & Olufsen sound system, and those stunning daytime running lights. You could throw the Infiniti G37s into the mix and really mess things up - even though it isn’t as good looking as the A5 (not many cars are really), it has more power and fully-loaded runs right around the $42,000 mark… that is a savings of about $12,000. You could use that money to buy a new wardrobe to try and make yourself look more appealing since you don’t own an Audi A5.

I have spent most of my time here talking about how the car looks. That is because the appearance of the car really is the best feature. I will now cut to the chase for you: It drives wonderfully on the highway, handles corners adequately, the six-speed transmission feels great, the brakes do a wonderful job of bringing this not-surprisingly heavy car to a stop, and the interior is excellent. With all that said, it is too expensive, but one of the best looking cars on the road hands down.

As I took my luggage out of the trunk, I found myself turning back for one more look at the car… then one more after that… then just one last picture… then I was getting yelled at by the shuttle driver to get my “behind on the shuttle”.

The Audi R8 Razor GTR has made its world debut at the Top Marques Monaco 2009, and features the same 4.2-liter V8 powerplant from the R8, but modified and tuned to produce a maximum of 580 bhp with a maximum torque of 443 lb-ft! That’s enough power and torque to push the PPI Audi R8 Razor GTR from 0 to 62 mph in just 3.7 seconds and on to a top speed of 206 mph!

The extra power comes courtesy of a supercharger, a ram-charged sport air filter system, a remapped engine management system and a stainless steel high performance exhaust system. This is coupled to a slight 250 kg decrease in curb weight courtesy of a high-strength Carbon Fibre aero body kit that incorporates a new front bumper with a specially engineered front diffuser, PPI sideskirts, and special rear wing with an adjustable Gurney-flap.

Es sorprendente la de veces, que viendo un coche simple, puede llegar a gustarte tanto, y este jetta Mk3 from New York, es un claro ejemplo de ello. No tiene unas llantas sumamente gordas, ni una bajada de impresion que le haga ir lamiendo el suelo, sin embargo, los pocos detalles curiosos que tiene, la caja de la que se trata, y esos toques frikis, lo cargan de gracia, y le hacen merecedor de mostrarlo al mundo.

Algo que lleva tiempo llamándome la atención, y que cada día lo hace de manera mas incesante, es la carga de personalidad que desprenden los coches del otro lado del charco, y es que, con cuatro cosas, hacen un coche que llama la atención, y que siempre, siempre, tiene algo que destaque sobre el resto.

In the giant auto show, the Mondial de l'Automobile, French Car Maker Renault says that it is engineering a pair of battery-powered electric vehicles (EVs), to be produced starting in 2011, that it claims will be cheaper to build, cost markedly less to power, and produce far less carbon dioxide.

At the Paris show, Renault unveiled a concept car showing the design of a compact EV commuter car: an EV version of its Kangoo utility van, with startling acid-green windows to minimize air conditioning and a lithium-ion battery that carries the van 160 to 200 kilometers on an average charge. That range "really covers the usage by our customers, who are using their cars only for commuting and maybe short trips during the weekend," says Renault EV project director Serge Yoccoz. He predicts that such EVs could capture from 10 to 15 percent of the European car market as early as 2015.

Daimler, meanwhile, said that a battery version of its popular Smart Fortwo, in testing in London since last year, will be sold starting at the end of 2009.Renault says that EVs are a necessity because hybrids cannot deliver the level of gasoline use and emissions reductions that governments and customers are demanding of automakers.

DaimlerChrysler's new SMART ev, an electrically powered version of the fortwo model, will be offered to UK corporate customers on a lease basis as part of a trial marketing program starting this November. The normal three-cylinder powertrain (gasoline or diesel) is replaced by a 30-kW motor and batteries supplied by UK firm Zytek Group , which also converts the cars to electric power. In-town performance (0-30 mph in 6.5 seconds) is said to be better than for the gasoline version, and a range of 72 miles is claimed. If successful, the next generation fortwo will offer an electric version for the public, though it is unclear whether that variant will be offered when SMART launches in the US.

According to China Car Times, the development of the Tong Jian S11 is nearly complete, but details surrounding the hybrid-powered sports car are scarce. The car's designer gleefully lifted the best design cues from both the R8 and most any modern Ferrari, mashing them together to create this Chinese love fusion. Will it ever be produced? We're sure both the boys from Ingolstadt and Maranello are paying very close attention to that.

India has not seen any hybrid SUVs. The farthest premium car makers have gone in India is offering diesel models. If the future belongs to hybrid vehicles, the early planning can give Porsche a head start in India.

Toyota Motor Corp., Japan’s biggest automaker, said it booked 180,000 domestic orders for the new Prius gasoline-electric hybrid within a month of the car’s debut.

The company had set a sales target of 10,000 units a month in Japan, it said in a statement today. The tally includes 80,000 orders placed before the car went on sale on May 18.

The third-generation Prius was Japan’s bestselling car last month, surpassing Honda Motor Co.’s Insight, the first hybrid vehicle to top Japan’s monthly auto sales. Hybrid sales have surged on the introduction of new models and tax breaks.

Toyota City, Japan-based Toyota has transferred about 1,000 workers to its Tsutsumi factory in Aichi prefecture from other factories and implemented overtime shifts in April to meet demand for the Prius.

Not For Sale

I recently had one of those encounters you read about so often, it seems like a cliche. I was off to meet a friend who lives a few towns away. He was in the process of moving out of state and I wanted to get some pictures of the '67 Nova wagon he had put so much work into (nice ride, and a post for another time). Driving down the main drag, I caught the telltale glimpse of some sheet metal that screamed "pre-seventies". Sinking into the soil next to a small commercial strip of buildings was a mid-fifties classic, whose make I won't mention (feel free to insert the vehicle of your choice). There was something sprayed on the windshield that looked like the remnants of a price. My curiosity getting the best of me, I pulled a quick u-turn, figuring it was at least worth stopping to ask the ineveitable. As I entered the small office next door, I wondered how many had come before me with the same inquiry. The older gentleman explained that the car had been his. Twenty five years ago, he had parked it there and given it to his son who was going to restore it. The car had not moved since. Of course it was not for sale. The faded white lettering wasn't a price, but rather a faded, scrawled "No". As for the brief knowing glance that passed between father and son... was that the look of resignation or bemusement?

Hubo una vez un químico, Louis Pasteur, que realizo muchos y valiosisimos descubrimientos, pero yo hoy no lo menciono aquí por sus grandes descubrimientos, si no, por la certeza de una de las muchas frases que pronuncio, aquella frase decía: "sorprendernos por algo es el primer paso de la mente hacia el descubrimiento". Aun recuerdo como si fuera ayer, yo era aun un crió, y empezaba a gustarme algo, aquella nueva forma de visualizar los coches me había enganchado, y los foros de internet empezaban a ser sitios visitados durante horas por mi, habia un coche, negro, con un conductor, recuerdo que el coche decía que era feo, tan negro, sin nada especial, pero, curiosamente no podía dejar de mirarlo...

Meses mas tarde volví a ver de nuevo aquel coche, esta vez en directo, y mi opinión, y mi percepción del mismo cambiaron radicalmente en aquel preciso momento. Algo nuevo recorría mi mente, y aunque no sabia muy bien como, aquel opel astra paso a ser uno de mis coches preferidos.

El conductor del que hablo era conocido como Txori en los foros nacionales de la escena germano/belga, cuando todo esto aun estaba naciendo para mi.

Quizás sea por eso, que de una manera u otra, sienta especial cariño por este coche, porque, tal vez, y aunque yo no lo sepa, fuera el coche que me abrió definitivamente los ojos, aunque después yo haya recorrido mi propio camino. Y es lógico, que me de pena anunciar su venta, por su historia, y por su dueño, pero cada día en la vida es una aventura que ha de vivirse, pero sobre todo, hay que elegir como vivirlo.

Road Test Review: 2009 Mazda MX-5

The 2009 Mazda MX-5… Home of the Happiest Grill on Earth.

I stand 75.6 inches tall. I get physically ill at the thought of the middle row in coach. I am always more than tall enough for any carnival ride. However I was excited at the prospect of getting behind the wheel of the 2009 Mazda MX-5. I have never driven a Miata but I have heard that they are representative of pure motoring joy. Keys in hand and chiropractor on speed dial I sat down in the MX-5 and moved the seat all the way back and all the way down… which wasn’t very much of a move - this could be a long week.

Looks lean and mean from the side - don't peak around the front or the illusion is destroyed.

I said “keys in hand” but I should have said key fob in pocket because this is the top of the line 2009 Mazda MX-5 Grand Touring PRHT (Power Retractable Hardtop) and it features a remote keyless entry system. Instead of a traditional lock and key on the column, you twist a plastic knob to start the car. I would have preferred a nice big red START button, but this knob works just fine and won’t scare away those afraid to move to modern technology.

Once I settled into something resembling a driving position, I found the interior to be just the right mix of simple and necessary. Basically, everything I want and nothing I don’t need - all within easy reach and laid out in a way that makes sense. The radio controls were within easy reach in the center stack but I could also control it from the steering wheel. The heated leather seats were supportive and comfortable, which is a necessary combination in a modern sports car.

The interior of the MX-5 has the perfect blend of driver-focused tools and modern amenities that make it a great daily-drivable and capable sports car.

One thing that was disappointing when driving the MX-5 was the amount of wind noise coming in from the open window when the top was up. Thankfully I could turn the sound system up and it would stay crisp but at any stop light I would have to turn it back down unless I wanted looks of disapproval from the soccer mom in the Navigator to my left and the smug guy in the Prius on my right. Though I guess they could have easily given those looks to each other. Either way, as soon as the light turned green I was first away from the light with a smile on my face and the newest Kanye West/Jay-z collaboration being turned back up to cover the noise of the rushing wind.

Top-down motoring is a blast in this MX-5, and the Power Retractable Hardtop opens and closes quickly and easily at the push (and hold) of a button.

I didn’t always listen to the radio though because I was listening to that little 2.0L DOHC 16-valve inline four-cylinder engine growl (ok, maybe it’s more of a loud grunt but it sounds great) at each shift was just as much fun as the actual driving of the car. 167 hp on tap doesn’t sound like a lot but with a curb weight around 2,593lbs the MX-5 is ready for fun. This particular MX-5 came loaded with 17-in wheels, front and rear stabilizer bars as well as a set of Bilstein shocks and a limited slip differential which are part of the optional Suspension package. Adding all these up in terms of “how much do they add to the driving” and the experience goes from a 7 to a 9.5 really quick. Adding all these up in terms of “how much do they add to the cost of the car” and it is even better since the Suspension package is just $500. Add that $500 to the base price of $28,190, then throw in the Premium package for another $1,650 (Xenon HID headlights, keyless entry, Bluetooth, Sirius satellite radio, and Dynamic Stability Control) and the final tally for this 2009 Mazda MX-5 Grand Touring with Power Retractable Hardtop comes to $31,010.

I was not surprised by how much fun I had in the MX-5 during my week with the car. I was also not surprised that my back and neck hurt by the end of that week… this car is simply not made for someone 6’3”. However, this is not the Mazda’s fault and I hold no ill-will towards the leather seats which were actually quite comfortable on parts of my body that were not being bent into a Cirque Du Soleil level of flexibility. The 2009 Mazda MX-5 is a true sports car with great amenities for daily driver use. If I were a shorter man I would love to have an MX-5 in my driveway.

Expect to see smaller engines and more hybrid options for future Mercedes Benz models, as high fuel prices and greater environmental concerns push buyers – even luxury oriented ones - towards more efficient vehicles. The solution for most automakers, including arch rival BMW, is to downsize engines and increase the use of forced induction, and this is exactly what Mercedes plans to do for its next-generation of cars.

Mercedes has already shown off its DiesOtto engine, which in prototype form has already achieved 39mpg fuel-economy in the large S-Class saloon, and it’s just months away from launching the new S400 and ML450 hybrid vehicles. A new report from AutoWeek.nl, however, suggests that the automaker has much more drastic plans in store.

Mercedes R&D chief Thomas Weber has revealed that by 2012 almost the full lineup will be available with a hybrid option, and that customers will also be able to opt for three-cylinder engines in certain models. The three-cylinder engines will be much lighter than current four-cylinder designs, not to mention a whole lot more fuel efficient.

Weber went on to reveal that Mercedes is currently looking for a partner to help develop the new three-cylinder engine and that some of the models it will appear in include the Smart ForTwo, A and B-Class and even the next-generation C-Class.

The U.S. market won’t likely see a three-cylinder C-Class for some time to come, however, there’s a strong chance that we will get a four-cylinder model in the not too distant future.

Everyone knows the social cause to which Ratan Tata tried to find a solution and the overall solution has manifested itself into an automobile unlike any in the world. The design is fresh, slick and sporty which many in industry thought not possible, but even more emphatic than that was the precise packaging which ensured that a minimum space was taken up by the mechanicals and almost 80 per cent given to the occupants. Even Honda couldn't have made a better attempt at the "man maximum, machine minimum" principle it embraces in its small car designs.

Birthdays. I celebrated my twenty-first by drinking until I fell over, and my insurance company celebrated my twenty-fifth by cutting my rate a few bucks — but I haven’t felt much like celebrating my thirtieth, which happened this past month. Still, the past twenty-nine years haven’t been short of good (or bad) times, particularly with regards to cars. On nearly any given day of the week during my high school years, I spent at least a couple of hours a day wrenching on cars with my friends. One friend had a beautiful red ‘68 Mustang with a 351 Windsor engine and the transmission out of a ‘91 Mustang LX 5.0 in it. Another had a ‘69 Mach One, complete with shaker hood and the original 3-speed manual transmission. Somewhere between the time spent under those hoods and the nights running down the Houston freeways, I became a real Mustang fan.

When I left high school, I put away my wrenches, went to work, and started appreciating other aspects of performance automobiles: finely finished interiors, refined styling, handling. The Mustangs of the time never embodied any of these qualities, so I could never convince myself to buy one. Though Ford made great strides in performance and quality with the 2005-2009 S197 Mustangs, I still felt there was room for improvement. The dashboards were still made of plastics that resembled my kitchen cutting boards, and the handling remained sloppy at best when corners were thrown into the mix. Even with those flaws, however, the S197 gave me some hope that there might someday be another Mustang to capture my heart the way the old cars did. Perhaps it was divine intervention that a 2010 Mustang GT was to be delivered to me for evaluation the week of my 30^th birthday, because if there was ever a pony car to rekindle an old flame, this is the one.

At first glance, the 2010 Mustang GT might appear to be nothing more than a slight design refresh of the S197, but a closer examination tells the truth: these are big changes. On the outside, the styling of the 2010 Mustang GT has been substantially updated, sharing only the roof panel with the 2009 model. The new headlamps, which feature integrated turn indicators, hearken back to the Mustang of the early 70’s, while a redrawn rear quarter-panel and fender line pays tribute to the 1969 Mustang Fastback that I so loved. All this is topped off by a new “Power Dome” hood that gives the 2010 Mustang a much more muscular look than its predecessor. This new beauty isn’t just skin deep, with Ford citing a seven percent reduction in drag, and a 23 percent reduction of front end lift from the updated sheetmetal.

On the inside, nearly every bit of the Mustang’s interior has been reworked, with the only carry-over being the door cards and other very minor pieces of trim. The rental grade two-piece dashboard and center stack is gone, replaced with a very clean looking one-piece dashboard and instrument panel complete with new HVAC vents and an updated gauge cluster. All the hard plastics of the dashboard and center console have been replaced with high grade soft touch materials. Center stack controls feature the high quality HVAC and radio controls that have made their appearance on other recently updated Ford products, and are very easy to use.

NVH is way down from the S197, thanks to strategic additions of sound padding and revised window seals. It’s so quiet that ford actually pumps engine sounds into the cabin by way of a “loud-tube”, similar to the arrangement in the BMW Z4. This loud-tube connects the intake to the firewall and delivers the smooth sounds of the Mustang’s V8 to the occupants while keeping annoying road noise out.

Though I didn’t care for the bright red leather seats or steering wheel of our test car, I really did enjoy the glass roof option. The glass roof covers nearly the entire passenger seating area, and really adds a nice touch to the already high class interior. Ford says this glass roof panel only adds 24 pounds to the weight of the Mustang, but at $1,995 it becomes an expensive alternative to a traditional sunroof. If you aren’t a convertible kind of person but love natural light, this is a great compromise.

Once out on the road, I immediately noticed significant improvements to the Mustang’s ride and handling. For 2010, Ford has updated the suspension on the Mustang with firmer springs, larger stabilizer bars, and recalibrated shock absorbers. Ford has also added a strut tower bar for models equipped with the optional 19″ wheel and tire package to increase chassis stiffness.

These improvements result in a far more neutral handling car than the old model, and significantly less body roll. Even though our test car was equipped with all-season Pirelli performance tires, the car seemed to have much more pavement bite than the old car with ultra high performance summer tires.

Ford’s AdvanceTrac stability control is now standard, and offers a sport mode that allows you a bit more freedom to kick the tail out. Because our tester was not equipped with the optional TrackPack, there was no way to defeat the electronic nanny completely.

About the only area where Ford really hasn’t done much to improve the 2010 Mustang is under the hood. The 4.6L V8 is pretty much a direct carryover from the previous car, with the exception of a cold-air intake setup and a heaver crank damper that increases the redline by 250 RPM; both of which were borrowed from the 2009 Bullitt Mustang. The result is a very mild power increase of 15 horsepower to 315. Peak torque has been increased by 5 lb-ft to 325, but isn’t found until a rather lofty 4,250 RPM.

As with the old car, the 2010 Mustang certainly has enough power to get the job done, but rather ironically, the chassis is ahead of the engine. The competition is ahead (the Challenger R/T has 375-plus horsepower, and the Camaro 2SS is expected to clear 400), so I have to wonder what Ford has up their sleeves. Another 50 or so horsepower would make the Mustang damn near perfect. There might be hope just over the horizon though, as rumors of the return of a 5.0 liter V8 in the Mustang are spreading through the enthusiast community like wildfire. Ford has denied all rumors of the new engine, but common sense says that Ford isn’t going to let their iconic car get overshadowed by the upcoming Camaro.

By spending money where it counts, Ford has massaged an aging platform into a true performer. Ford has also given interior-quality fetishists that much less to complain about by updating the Mustang’s interior to be a contender for best in class. All things considered, the 2010 Mustang GT is a vast improvement over the outgoing model, and really needs more than a casual glance to appreciate all the changes.

I absolutely loved everything about the Mustang, and driving it reminded me what it was like to feel young and invincible again. This is THE Mustang that has made me fall in love with the brand all over again. Sure cars like the R8 and Viper are a blast to drive, but they are fantasy cars to me. The new Mustang is a dream car that is easily within reach to me and most Americans. That said, a new Mustang is certainly in my future when it comes time to add a garage mate to my Audi TT sometime in 2010. Not only can I not wait to drive one again, I can’t wait to finally own one.

Se que estos días voy un poco con retraso, y apenas actualizo como me gustaría, por todo ello me gustaría pedir perdón de antemano, pero los exámenes, el trabajo y los entrenamientos me quitan la gran parte del tiempo del que dispongo.

Y pedidas disculpas exponer lo que os traigo. Como no, del maestro Alain, nada me gustaría mas que esta persona empezara a ser reconocida por su labor fotográfica en el ámbito del automovil, y le tiendo mi mano, que no es mas que ayuda mutua, para el buen funcionamiento del blog, y de su reconocimiento.

Esta vez tenemos diferente escenario, con mismo significado, retratar coches en movimiento, en una kdd de Opel Astra, y como no, unas fotos expectaculares que no están al alcance de la mayoría, que retratan lo que allí se vio, fantásticos astras, que muestran toda la esencia de ese coche. Nuevos motores para el Mercedes Benz Clase C en España

Mercedes ha incorporado a la oferta española del Clase C tres nuevos motores que se caracterizan por sus emisiones más contenidas. Se trata de los C220 CDI de 170 CV, C250 CDi de 204 CV y el C250 CGI de 204 CV, todos ellos con el apellido BlueEfficiency.

Lo más destacable en los tres modelos en su consumo y nivel de emisiones. Toyota, Honda slash production as car demand falls

Toyota Motor Corp. and Honda Motor Co., Japan’s two largest carmakers, reduced production last month as rising unemployment in the U.S. has hammered car sales.

Toyota’s output dropped 39 percent to 442,621 vehicles in May from a year earlier, the company said in an e-mailed release today. The decline is the company’s 10th straight. Honda, the country’s second-biggest carmaker, cut global production by 38 percent to 195,085 units, it said. Nissan’s global output fell 27 percent.

Japanese automakers slashed production in North America last month to reduce inventories as overall sales in the U.S. plunged 34 percent. Sliding demand in the U.S. has led Nissan Motor Co. to cut 20,000 jobs this fiscal year and pushed General Motors Corp. and Chrysler LLC into bankruptcy.

“Recovery will come only after the U.S. returns to health because Japanese carmakers rely on that market,” said Masatoshi Nishimoto, an analyst at CSM Worldwide in Tokyo.

CSM predicts sales in the U.S. will fall to 9.7 million units this year from 13.2 million a year ago and then rise to 11 million in 2010. The jobless rate in the world’s largest economy jumped to 9.4 percent in May, the highest in more than 25 years.

The Japan Automobile Manufacturers Association said June 18 that domestic sales are lagging behind its forecast for the fiscal year, already expected to be the worst in three decades. The group predicts Japan industrywide sales will drop 8.5 percent to 4.3 million in the year ending March.

Toyota’s production in Japan fell 42 percent to 192,637 in May and exports dropped 51 percent, the company said. That doesn’t include its Hino and Daihatsu units.

Honda built 52,663 vehicles domestically, down 43 percent, the company said. Its exports slumped by 65 percent to 18,156 vehicles. Total production at Nissan fell to 201,340 vehicles, while domestic output fell 36 percent and exports fell 56 percent, it said in a statement.

Honda rose 3.3 percent to 2,650 yen as of 1:45 p.m. on the Tokyo Stock Exchange. Toyota gained 2.5 percent to 3,710 yen. Nissan rose 3.5 percent to 590 yen.

Toyota Slashing Costs

The automaker is slashing costs by at least 800 billion yen this year as it expects global sales to plummet by 1.07 million vehicles to 6.5 million units this fiscal year.

Toyoda said today he hopes to cut beyond that target calling the goal “only a starting line.” He added that his salary will be reduced by 30 percent for one year and board members will also return part of their salaries.

Toyota is likely to begin cutting costs in Japan first, analysts said. Toyoda may slash the automaker’s domestic capacity and workforce by at least 10 percent, reducing its 20 platforms and 70 model types by 10 percent and consolidating its rural dealer network in Japan, according to Koji Endo, an analyst at Credit Suisse Securities (Japan) Ltd.

Prius

Toyota, which introduced a new version of its Prius hybrid on May 18, is reviewing its product line up to focus on regional offerings, Toyoda said.

Toyota will form a market research, planning and advertising unit that will report to Toyoda. The unit, which will merge existing departments, will be formed in January.

Toyota said it has now booked 200,000 domestic orders for the new Prius gasoline-electric hybrid.

The company had set a sales target of 10,000 units a month in Japan. The tally includes 80,000 orders placed before the car went on sale.

The third-generation Prius was Japan’s bestselling car last month, surpassing Honda Motor Co.’s Insight. Hybrid sales have surged on the introduction of new models and government incentives.

When movement is an art!

No es la primera vez que os traigo fotos en movimiento, pero, cuando esas fotos vienen del maestro Alain, sabemos desde el principio que no tienen desperdicio alguno. Como indico en el titulo, a lo largo de la historia muchos movimientos han sido considerados un arte, desde las ofensivas bélicas en las lejanas laderas de Europa, hasta las acrobacias de una bailarina sobre patines en el hielo, o el caer de un copo de nieve, por eso, es por lo que califico estas fotos de arte, son un retrato fijo de algo tan difícil de captar como es el movimiento, ese concepto tan efímero, tan veloz, y tan natural en el que nunca nos paramos a pensar, simplemente disfrutamos de el haciendo caso omiso a todas las leyes físicas de las que se nutre. Y es por eso, por la complejidad de estas tomas que quiero agradecer a Alain no solo su cesión, si no también su ilusión por colaborar con este pequeño blog.

Es importante también saber, que para que el movimiento pueda ser capturado no solo hace falta el obturador de la cámara de Alain, si no, todos los coches y sus dueños que orgullosos posan conduciéndolos, apenas se les ve a través de las ventanillas, pero son los que realmente mueven la escena de esta subcultura, que poco a poco va ganando terreno y adeptos.

Una buena kedada de amigos siempre es un buen plan, y si además, al final de día te vas con la satisfacción de haber podido lograr un buen reportaje, mejor que mejor, y hoy, quiero compartir con vosotros, esos pequeños restos de alegría que seguro os pueden llegar al ver las siguientes fotos.

The Chevrolet Sail is to the Aveo what the Indigo CS is to the Indigo. Apart from India and China, this car will also be sold in Brazil with a 1.2-liter and 1.4-liter engines.

Toyota introducing the new iQ3

Toyota’s iQ range is extended for the first time since launch with the introduction to the line-up of a 1.33-litre engine. The highly efficient lightweight unit, already successfully deployed in Auris, Yaris and Urban Cruiser is offered exclusively in the new iQ3 model.

Benefiting from Toyota Optimal Drive technology for a class-leading combination of power, fuel economy and low emissions, it uses Dual VVT-i control of both intake and exhaust valves to deliver strong torque at low to medium engine speeds and achieve maximum efficiency.

The headline figures broadcast the exceptional customer benefits in terms of running costs. With manual transmission, iQ3 returns an official 58.9mpg in combined cycle driving, and 113g/km of CO2 – Band B for road tax (£35 annual charge) – both of which are best-in-class figures. Equipped with Toyota’s new Multidrive CVT system, fuel economy is just as good, while emissions rise slightly to 120g/km, but remain within Band B.

This achievement is not at the expense of performance. The engine develops a maximum 98bhp at 6,000rpm and peak torque of 125Nm at 4,400rpm. Nought to 62mph can be achieved in 11.8 seconds (11.6 with Multidrive) and top speed is 106mph. This underlines the fact that iQ is more than just a city runabout, giving a strong, stable and enjoyable drive at motorway speeds.

Matched to a compact, lightweight six-speed manual gearbox, the engine features Toyota’s Stop & Start system. This automatically cuts the engine when the car comes to a stop and the gear shift is moved to neutral; when a gear is selected, the engine restarts quickly (in just 0.4 seconds) and seamlessly, thanks to the use of a permanently engaged gear mechanism. In urban driving – iQ’s natural environment – Stop & Start can yield fuel consumption savings of up to 15 per cent.

iQ3 is also available with Multidrive, Toyota’s new stepless CVT (continuously variable transmission).

One of the key elements of the 1.33-litre engine is its piston design. Smaller and lighter than on the previous 1.3 unit, they are designed with a smaller contact area and use carbon ceramide, an advanced material more commonly used in Formula One engineering, to reduce friction.

iQ3 carries forward the premium specification of iQ2 but with some additional, exclusive features: the door mirrors have chrome-finished housings and the car rides on larger, 16-inch dual five-spoke alloy wheels. The choice of six paint finishes includes Decuma Grey metallic, which is also exclusive to iQ3.

The standard equipment features include automatic headlights and wipers, climate control, electric folding and heated door mirrors, Smart Entry and Start, auto-dimming rear view mirror, six-speaker sound system, front fog lights and a leather trimmed steering wheel. Nine airbags are fitted, including the world’s first rear window airbag, and the active safety package includes Vehicle Stability Control (VSC) with Traction Control (TRC).

iQ3 is on sale now. On-the-road prices are £11,495 for the six-speed manual version and £12,495 with Multidrive.

iQ Accessory Packs and Options

Four themed accessory packs have been assembled for iQ, giving owners an easy way to give their car that something extra.

iStyle (£295) adds chrome surrounds to the front fog lights, chrome side sills, a chrome strip on the tailgate and aluminium scuff plates.
iUrban (£345) provides rear parking sensors, a reversible rubber/velour boot liner (for use when the rear seats are folded flat) and carpet mats.
iSports (£495) focuses on style with a neat roof spoiler, deep rear skirt and inverted delta-shape chrome exhaust tailpipe finisher.
iConnect (£375) keeps you in touch on the move with Bluetooth, plus the neat detachable Glovebag to store documents and small personal items.

With such a high standard specification on iQ3, there are just two extra-cost options: leather seat upholstery (£690) and a fully integrated satellite navigation system with Bluetooth and iPod integration (£930).

As some of you must already know, GM has decided to baptize the first Project Viva car as Agile, a name that may not be as lively as Viva, but will make sense in the many languages of the countries it will be sold at.

Anyway, Agile will be a three and five-door hatchback that will bear a wheelbase of 2.51m, what will probably make it be one of the roomiest cars of its size. Its platform has been said to be the same one used by Opel Corsa D, the fouth generation of Corsa, but, considering Agile has been designed to be cheaper to build than Corsa D, it would make more sense if the car used the same platform of Corsa C, which already is produced in some emerging countries, such as Brazil.

When it comes to the engines, the car is expected to use two flex fuel units. One of them is the 1.4-litre four-cylinder engine that is already used by GM in Brazil, which produces 105 bhp on ethanol. The other one is a version of the 1.8-litre four-cylinder, upgraded to generate 129 bhp also on the biofuel. Diesel engines are also expected to be put under the hood, but there is no clue, so far, on what they will be.

Besides the hatchback, there will be also sedan, minivan, pick-up truck and small SUV offsprings for Viva. This latest version will be inspired in the GPix Concept, presented at the São Paulo Auto Show last year. Let’s see how long the car takes to reach other markets. In South America, it is expected to be officially presented by October.

The torque tube negated the need for universal joints at either end, and the 3/4" driveshaft spun freely despite the 3" arc.

Rope drive, and the big-ass four-banger only lasted three years, but that was long enough for today's candidate – a 1962 Tempest Convertible Automatic – to be built. It sports the 115bhp 194.5cid slant-four engine (half the 389 V8) under its furrowed-brow hood, and back between the rear tires is a corvair-based TempesTorque 2-speed automatic. This is a car for cruising the boulevard, not stoplight hoonage. That's not to say it's lacking in the fun department. Its top, much like Pamela Anderson, will go down. And there's something special about 1960's American ragtops that makes them as appealing as the image of Pambo. . . well, you know.

The original price for the series 21 tempest drop-top was a two chickens in every pot-friendly $2,564, plus options. As the seller of this white over red convertible is a man of few words, we'll just have to speculate whether it has Wondertouch power brakes, or the ashtray illumination option. The ad does say that the car runs and shifts, but needs a new top. It also appears to be sporting a single whitewall tire there, so its got that going for it.

Those meager tidbits don't give you much to go on, and there aren't any interior shots for you to tell if it's full of rabid raccoons or douche-bag hipsters, but you've been confronted with harder tasks in the past than whether $3,500 is a fair asking for this odd-duck.
